President John S.K. Kauwe III, following approval from the BYU–Hawaii Board of Trustees, has appointed Brooke Peterson as advancement vice president at BYU–Hawaii, effective December 1.
Peterson currently serves as director of marketing and communications, where she has been focused on aligning the university’s messaging and outreach with its prophetic mission and strategic priorities. Under her leadership, the university completed a comprehensive brand refresh, launched a redesigned website, and expanded social media engagement.
“Brooke has demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision in helping BYU–Hawaii share its unique purpose with the world,” said President John S.K. Kauwe III. “Her ability to build teams, strengthen partnerships, and communicate with clarity will bless our university in her new role.”
Prior to joining BYU–Hawaii, Brooke was director of marketing at BYU–Pathway Worldwide, where she spearheaded campaigns that significantly boosted brand visibility and increased enrollment. Before that, she led global communication strategies for several business units at American Airlines, focusing on recognition, community relations, leadership, and high-profile events.
“I am thrilled to take on this new role,” said Peterson. “I love BYU–Hawaii, and I am deeply committed to the success of our students and fulfilling the university’s prophetic mission to build disciples of Jesus Christ who are prepared to live and lead throughout Asia and the Pacific.”
Peterson replaces Laura Tevaga, who is leaving to serve a mission with her husband. Tevaga joined BYU–Hawaii in 2016 and has been serving as advancement vice president since 2022.
“Laura has led with faith, humility, and love,” President Kauwe said. “Her influence has strengthened BYU–Hawaii and blessed the lives of students, employees, and friends of the university around the world.”
Peterson holds a Bachelor of Science in communication from Brigham Young University–Idaho and a Master of Business Administration from Brigham Young University's Marriott School of Business.
She and her husband, Marc, met in a young single adult ward in Tempe, Arizona. They enjoy traveling (she has been to all 50 U.S. states and five continents), spending time outdoors, and running around with their Airedale Terrier, Archie. She currently serves as the Primary president in her ward.
