“We are excited Jaime is joining our amazing Facilities Management team,” commented Schlag. “As we prepare the campus for the next 50 years, he brings an excellent attention to detail that will serve the entire campus well. He believes wholeheartedly in what BYU-Hawaii is all about and will be an excellent mentor to students.”

Lopez is an Army veteran and accomplished leader with 26 years of experience directing facilities operations, engineering support, and infrastructure development across global environments.

“As I retire from military service, I feel incredibly honored and grateful to begin this next chapter at BYU–Hawaii,” said Lopez. “I’m excited to be part of this remarkable university, to serve alongside dedicated professionals, and to contribute to a campus that blends spiritual purpose with practical stewardship.”

BYU–Hawaii holds deep meaning for the Lopez family—his wife, Dr. Korin Lopez, is an alumna, and four of their children currently attend. Though they’ve lived all over the world, Hawaii has always felt like home.

Lopez earned a Master of Science in Management from Excelsior College, a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts from Columbia College, and is a graduate of the Sergeants Major Academy, U.S. Army Strategic Education Nominative Leader at the Wharton School, The University of Pennsylvania; Nominative Leader Course Leader Development, U.S. Army War College; and Master Resilience Trainer.

In addition to their four children attending BYU–Hawaii, Lopez and his wife have two other children, including their recently adopted youngest son, who was once a student in his wife’s special education classroom in Hau‘ula.

When not a work, he enjoys tackling the never-ending list of home projects, spending time on the water, and being with my family.
