Patricia Patrick Appointed Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Letters

Brigham Young University–Hawaii Academic Vice President John Bell announced the appointment of Dr. Patricia Patrick as the dean of the Faculty of Arts & Letters. Patrick is replacing Yifen Beus who was previously appointed as associate academic vice president for faculty.

Dr. Patrick has bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Brigham Young University (1983 and 1989) and a doctorate in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2007). She began her appointment at BYU–Hawaii in the fall of 2007. Her academic expertise is in British literature spanning the periods from medieval to early modern. Patricia has a reputation for quiet, diligent, and humble service. Most recently, she has served as the leader/coordinator for the English program.

Dr. Patrick is a dedicated member of the campus community, loyal to the mission of BYU–Hawaii, and known for a wonderful capacity to mix compassion with firmness and persistence. Hence, she is widely respected and trusted among her colleagues. As one stated in recommending her, “[She] has great ideas, cares about people, and gets things done while being approachable and pleasant to work with.”
