BYU–Hawaii Operations Vice President Kevin Schlag announced the hire of Sam Merrick as the new director of Facilities Management. In this role, Merrick will oversee Grounds, Property Services, Maintenance, and other areas in FM.
“Sam brings a wide range of experience and expertise. We are excited for him to be leading FM. He will join an amazing team of people and help them get the facilities, processes, and people ready for the significant changes coming to the campus," Schlag said.
Most recently, Merrick served as the director of facilities maintenance and operations at BYU-Idaho, where he oversaw fleet, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and electrical, in addition to all housing and building maintenance. He has held multiple positions over his 17-year career at BYU–Idaho, including teaching as an adjunct faculty member.
Merrick earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business science and technology from BYU-Idaho. He served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Antonio, Texas. He and his wife, Michelle, are the parents of two boys. They enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing, and hiking.
Effective August 1, Merrick will replace Randy Sharp, who is retiring from BYU–Hawaii after 10 years of service.
