Release six, the newest installment of Blackboard, will be available at BYU-Hawaii starting winter semester 2005.
Blackboard is online course management software that offers powerful tools to supplement and enhance classroom learning for both students and professors. Benefits include ready access to course materials, improved communication via announcements and discussion groups, online grade books and automated quizzes.
Among other things, the new release will include advanced design features for professors to customize their courses and a new collaboration tool that will allow students to chat one-on-one or in groups.
Blackboard 5.5 courses will soon be transitioned to Blackboard 6.1. Advanced features will be available to current users as well as new users. From November 1 through November 19, a Blackboard support team will be available to assist with the transition.
It is important to note that Blackboard 5.5 will be discontinued fall 2004. If you have any question regarding course transition, please email the support staff at bboard@byuh.edu.
Beginning winter 2005, students and faculty will need to get a new CES net ID and password to be able to log on to Blackboard 6.1. Faculty will begin to generate their own CES net ID on Monday, October 25. Staff and students will begin the CES net ID and password process November 3.
Starting next semester, students and professors will need to get a new net ID and password to log on to the updated version of Blackboard. To create a CES net ID, please log on to www.byuh.edu/netid and follow the screen prompts. If you have any questions regarding the process, please contact the call center at 293-3921 or 293-3847.
The new CES net ID is a church-wide identification and authentication system that will initially be shared among all of the CES institutions: BYU-Hawaii, BYU-Idaho, BYU in Provo and the LDS Business College.
