Business Clubs Expand BYU–Hawaii's Repertoire

Several of BYU–Hawaii's business clubs are giving new dimension to networking in an vacillating economic market. These clubs, which emphasize a "hands-on" approach, help students after graduation to better fulfill the motto of "Go[ing] forth to serve."

The Alliance of Marketing Professionals and Students is an organization for students interested in improving their skills in the realm of marketing. The objective of the organization is for students to get hands on experience and networking opportunities within the marketing community. The advisor of the club, Lenard Huff, said, "We want to make connections between students and professionals." Members will complete two or three projects a semester with companies on the island. Any student interested in the club should contact Huff at huffl@byuh.edu, or the president, Garrett Kerr.

Supply Chain and Operations, or SCO, is a new organization designed to go hand-in-hand with the new Supply Chain and Operations Management track. The club is mostly student led, with Jarett Richardson as the president. The advisor, Cary Countryman, said, "This program is especially important in Hawaii, because of the reliance on the mainland." This club is useful even for non-majors. There are several field trips planned for the semester. Students interested in joining should contact Countryman.

The Seasider Investment Club, with Cary Wasden advising, offers real-world application for the investment process. Members of this organization will handle real money and get in depth experience in investing. Students will analyze companies and stocks, and make real acquisitions, taking part in the entire investment process.

The Hospitality Club, or the Ho'okipa Society is an organization designed to help hospitality and tourism management majors. The club offers network opportunities within the hospitality industry, especially among alumni currently working in the field. Members of the club will visit resort properties on the island and listen to guest speakers. Students interested in joining should contact the advisor, Jeff Caneen.
