BYUH Brings in New Director

BYU-Hawaii proudly announces Laura Moana Tevaga as the new head of the University Communications & Relations Department. Laura succeeds Michael A. Johanson as Director of Communications and Marketing.  Michael had been serving in this capacity since January 2009 until the beginning of this fall, upon transferring to Brigham Young University in Provo as Director of Alumni Outreach & Communications.

Though of Tahitian heritage Laura was born and raised in Chicago. Having earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from BYU in 1995 and received her Executive MBA from BYU’s Marriott School of Management in 2011, Laura has since lived in both Tahiti and Provo until her arrival here in Laie.

She has nearly 20 years of media and direct marketing experience.  Laura has held several different positions in the Membership and Corporate Support departments and in January 2013 was promoted to Director of Development & Station Management at Brigham Young University.  In this position, Laura was a member of the executive management team for all of BYU Broadcasting and oversaw the development initiatives for BYUtv, BYUtv International, KBYU Eleven, Classical 89, BYU Radio and byutv.org. Additionally, Laura has worked with many non-profits including the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and KBYU-TV & FM.

Laura has set her sights as the new director at BYU-Hawaii to be responsible for effective team coordination at the Communications & Relations Department.  She will be continuing her professional initiatives of thinking forward, developing specific and measurable goals for marketing development, and overall maintaining quality of the department services.  In her spare time, Laura enjoys traveling, socializing and offering free advice to her husband, Nofoa, who originally comes from Laie, and their two teenagers, who will be joining her here at BYU-Hawaii.
