Christmas Lighting Unites Campus and Community

On Wednesday, December 5th, 2012, at 6 PM, Brigham Young University–Hawaii will host its annual Christmas Lighting program in the Cannon Activities Center. The event will include special musical performances from Laie Elementary School’s students and faculty and brings the community together.

Members of the Laie community have raved about this tradition. Laie resident and mother to one of Laie Elementary School’s fifth graders, Jeanne Wasden, gave her recollection of Christmas Lighting in the past: “There’s  a countdown with live coverage from the ‘Tree’. It’s really beautiful and it jump-starts the holidays by bringing everyone together. I love it!”

To begin the program President Steven C. Wheelwright will share a Christmas message, which precedes Laie Elementary School’s program including holiday favorites “Run Run Rudolph” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”.

The highlight for many of the children this evening will be a visit from Santa Claus. The man in the big red suit will conclude the ceremony with a countdown to the lighting of the campus around the Little Circle.

Following the program, the audience is invited to take pictures with Santa in the ballroom. There will also be a sale at The Bookstore until 9 PM Wednesday evening, with special discounts on clothing, insignia items, Hawaiian and LDS merchandise and trade.
