On June 23, about 225 residents attended a community meeting as a follow-up to the surveys and workshops conducted in April, and to provide additional public input. On June 30, nine members of the City of Honolulu's Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) submitted changes to the City's land use plan in support of Envision Laie proposals. These proposed changes include expansion options for BYU–Hawaii and the Polynesian Cultural Center, the relocation of housing designations to Malaekahana with sufficient unit numbers to address pent-up demand and growth, and village centers in Laie and Malaekahana.
These Envision Laie proposals were reviewed on Thursday, July 30, from 7-9 p.m. at Laie Elementary School. The Ko'olau Loa Neighborhood Board called this special meeting. The agenda included a presentation by the Envision Laie team, a public comment/question period, and a board vote. There were many in attendance. Those that came early received gold LCA t-shirts to indicate support for economic development, jobs, and housing. The show of community support was critical.
The proposals werel reviewed again at the PAC meeting on Wednesday, August 5, 7-9 p.m. at the Queen Liliuokalani Children's Center in Punalu'u. At this meeting, the PAC internally discussed proposed changes to the City's land use plan, including those that support Envision Laie proposals.
