Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou and Dr. Petra Chou Published an Article in LDS Living

December 2022 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

This article shares the conversion story of a branch president in Mongolia who converted from shamanism to the restored gospel. Titled “From Shamanism to the Gospel of Jesus Christ: A Mongolian Branch President’s Conversion Story,” in LDS Living, 13 December 2022.

November 2022 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

This article tells the story of the first two sister missionaries from Mongolia. Titled “A Sweet Friendship: How Two Women Became the First Full-Time Missionaries Called from Mongolia,”in LDS Living, 21 November 2022.

Dr. Joel Reece & Dr. Ben Chase Accompanied Students at the International Congress on Obesity (ICO) In Australia

October 2022 — Dr. Joel Reece & Dr. Ben Chase, Faculty of Sciences

Associate Professor, Dr. Joel Reece and Assistant Professor, Dr. Ben Chase accompanied students Bella Brown and Daniel Cancado to the International Congress on Obesity (ICO) in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Reece, Dr. Chase, and Dr. Nakachi mentored the students in their research on the acute impact of foam rolling on fundamental physical activity movement patterns compared to static stretching. It was a great experience for the students to participate in an academic conference on an international stage. They enjoyed the opportunity to network with medical professionals and academics namely from Oceania and the Asian Rim.

"Voice of the Saints in Mongolia" is the first comprehensive history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mongolia.

Cato Institute Published Gale Pooley's New Book, Superabundance

August 2022 — Gale Pooley, Faculty of Arts & Letters

Pooley's new book, "Superabundance: The Story of Population Growth, Innovation, and Human Flourishing on an Infinitely Bountiful Planet" was published by the Cato Institute. It has since been reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, the National Review, Forbes, Spectator, the Christian Science Monitor, the Washington Post, the Washington Times, LeExpress, and the Times of India.

Dr. Eric Marlowe Returns from Jerusalem

August 2022 — Dr. Eric Marlowe, Faculty of Religious Education

Dr. Eric Marlowe recently returned from the Holy Land where he taught Old and New Testament courses at the BYU Jerusalem Center where he helped students grow academically, culturally, socially, and spiritually in a setting touched by the lives of apostles, prophets, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Charles Bradshaw Presented at 2022 Transatlantic Studies Association Conference

July 2022 — Charles Bradshaw, Faculty of Arts & Letters

Charles Bradshaw presented a paper in July at the 2022 Transatlantic Studies Association Conference in Canterbury, England. The paper discusses early American depictions of Islam in Royal Tyler’s 1798 novel, The Algerine Captive.

Dr. Erica Glenn Completes Fulbright Research in Poland

July 2022 — Dr. Erica Glenn, Faculty of Culture, Language & Performing Arts

Dr. Erica Glenn recently conducted research on a Fulbright Grant in Warsaw, Poland, where she studied the impact of music among Ukrainian refugees and reported on conditions in refugee centers. She has published Op-Eds with USA Today and the Salt Lake Tribune. She has also presented her findings at the ASU Melikian Center and the MCCCD Global Forum on Social Justice in the Arts and will speak at Fordypningsrommet Fleinvaer in Norway in June. This summer (2023), she will continue her research on an American Councils grant in Estonia.

Kikiana Hurwitz Joins the National Registry of Certified Chemists in 2022

Kikiana Hurwitz met the education, experience, and examination standards to be certified as a Chemical Hygiene Officer in the National Registry of Certified Chemists in 2022.

Kikiana Hurwitz Contributed to a Paper Published in the Regional Studies in Marine Science

June 2022 — Kikiana Hurwitz, Faculty of Sciences

Kikiana Hurwitz was a contributing author for a paper titled "Alatina Alata Box Jellyfish Monthly Migrations in Hawai’i: Lunar and Physical Oceanographic Triggers" in the "Regional Studies in Marine Science Volume 53." The paper addresses the monthly migration triggers and spawning of Alatina Alata in Māmala Bay and the question of why they always show up 8-10 days after the full moon. Read full paper.

Benjamin Jordan Featured as Keynote Lecturer at National Youth Science Camp

Summer 2022 — Benjamin Jordan, Faculty of Sciences

Benjamin Jordan was featured as a lecturer at the National Youth Science Foundation's National Youth Science Camp. The camp is a national and international program set up to encourage high school students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
