Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou and Dr. Petra Chou Published Two Articles with Student JoYa Hsu

Fall 2023 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

Po Nien Chou and Petra Chou have mentored and published two peer-reviewed articles on the history of the Church in Hong Kong with his student research assistant JoYa Hsu in LDS Historical Studies.

Dr. P.N. Felipe Chou mentors and co-publishes three articles in the LDS Historical Studies journal with his student research assistant ont he history of Guam. Authors of the articles include Po Nien Chou, Petra Chou, and Jonathan A. Keith. Latter-day Saints Historical Studies, 23(1), Spring 2022, 1–53.

August 2023 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

Po Nien Chou and Petra Chou presented a four-day series on the history of the Church in Mongolia at the 2023 Education Week with four professional recordings available online at InspirED.

July 2023 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

Dr. P.N. Felipe Chou was invited to present at the 30th anniversary of the Church in Mongolia. His presentation was titled “The History of the Church in Mongolia: LDS Women Pioneers in Mongolia.”

Summer 2023 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

Po Nien Chou traveled with President and Sister Kauwe to Darkham and UB, Mongolia, to hold firesides and present on the history of the Church in Mongolia for their 30-year anniversary celebration.

Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou Published a Chapter in “Battlefields to Temple Grounds: Latter-day Saints in Guam and Micronesia”

April 2023 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

This chapter recounts the history of the Yigo Guam Temple, the first temple in Micronesia. Titled “The Yigo Guam Temple,” in “Battlefields to Temple Grounds: Latter-day Saints in Guam and Micronesia” (pp. 275–292) by R. Devan Jensen and Rosalind Meno Ram.

Po Nien Chou published a chapter titled “Yigo Guam Temple” in a new book entitled “Battlefields to Temple Grounds: Latter-day Saints in Guam and Micronesia,” edited by R. Devan Jensen and Rosalind Meno Ram.

Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou Brings Student Research Assistants to Co-Present at the Church History in the Pacific and Asia Conference

March 2023 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

Dr. P.N. Felipe Chou worked with two student research assistants (RAs) to co-present with him and his wife at the Church History in the Pacific and Asia Conference, providing them with experience presenting at a professional conference.

March 2023 – Dr. Po Nien (Felipe) Chou, Faculty of Religious Education

This presentation highlights the contribution of Chinese temple matrons in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Titled “Chinese Temple Matrons in Taiwan and Hong Kong.” Presented at the 2023 Church History in the Pacific and Asia Conference – Voices of Latter-day Saint Women in the Pacific and Asia by Petra Chou, Po Nien Chou, Jo-Ya Hsu, and Sophia Lestina.

This presentation highlights the LDS Women in Mongolia at the Church History in the Pacific and Asia Conference. Titled “Voices of Pioneer Latter-day Saint Women in Mongolia.” Presented at the 2023 Church History in the Pacific and Asia Conference - Voices of Latter-day Saint Women in the Pacific and Asia.

Dr. Melissa Glenn Presents at the 2023 National Association of Teachers of Singing International Region Conference

February 2023 — Dr. Melissa Glenn, Faculty of Culture, Language & Performing Arts

Dr. Melissa Glenn was selected to present at the 2023 NATS International Region Conference on her innovations within the vocal program at BYUH. Drawing on research and experimentation among our diverse student body, Dr. Glenn offered suggestions for adapting core courses for voice majors like Vocal Literature, Lyric Diction, and Vocal Pedagogy to better serve a global population in a 21st century world. Instead of focusing primarily on classical voice and artificially separating classical, musical theatre, and contemporary styles, she recommended an integrated approach and encouraged her colleagues around the globe to examine their own curriculum critically.
