David and Elizabeth Kammerer joined forces at the pulpit to share a message on the journey that each individual will experience in life. Their devotional message, given on October 6, was presented with four key aspects.
Sister Kammerer shared the first part, which was to "keep Heavenly Father as your guide." To do this, we must build a relationship with God. We build this relationship with God the same way we do with our friends--through talking with Him a lot. "We can find out the nature of God by spending time with the scriptures," said Sister Kammerer, stating that if we follow the Savior, we will have Heavenly Father as our guide.
Brother Kammerer shared the second part, which was to "pack plenty of spiritual nourishment by feasting on the words of Christ." He specifically pointed out the word 'feast'. He told students not to snack, but to consistently feast on spiritual things by participating in such activities as personal prayer, family prayer, scripture study, and sabbath meeting attendance. He went further, comparing the three hour block of Church attendance to a feast, stating, “I implore you, my beloved brothers and sisters, to go and partake of that three-course meal each and every Sunday.”
Sister Kammerer shared the third topic, which was to “choose good travel companions." She quoted Robert D. Hales: "A true friend makes it easier to live the gospel by being around him [or her]." She further stated, "Whether we are talking about our future eternal companion, or today’s BFF, choose your companions wisely."
Their final advice was simple: Don't allow yourself to get lost on a detour but find joy in the journey to eternal happiness.
