Dear President and Mrs. Shumway,

Congratulations on your call to serve as president and matron of the Nuku’alofa Tonga Temple.

I am grateful to you both for the contributions you have made to the Ko’olauloa fabric over the past 40 years and for the parts you’ve played in building the strong foundation upon which our young people now stand.  Under your watch, the university has also contributed to Kahuku High and Intermediate’s many successes in academics, the arts, and athletics.

Every single department on the BYU-Hawaii campus has made significant contributions to our school. We’ve benefited from the myriad partnerships with your academic and administrative departments. The examples are too many to enumerate.

Because of your generosity, we have been able to supplant our own inadequate facilities through use of BYU-Hawaii campus. More importantly, our students have had the opportunity to become comfortable on a college campus and participate in activities that have helped them build skills and confidence necessary for successful transitions to college and other career opportunities.

The Nuku’alofa Tonga Temple and citizens of Tonga are fortunate for the opportunity that they’ll have to be enriched by your leadership.

On behalf of the students and faculty of Kahuku High and Intermediate School, I would like to bid you a loving farewell and thank you both for your unparalleled contributions.
We vow to continue your work by doing everything we can to support the new president in taking the college to new heights.

Aloha, and have a safe journey!
Lisa DeLong
