BYU-Hawaii Choir Presents Final Tour Concert

Mongolian University Names President Shumway Honorary Professor

ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia — The Health Sciences University of Mongolia named President Eric B. Shumway an honorary professor today in partial recognition for BYU-Hawaii's instructional design assistance in producing distance-learning materials that have been used by over 2,600 medical students and practitioners last year, as well as other educational initiatives.

ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia — The BYU-Hawaii Concert Choir presented its final performance in a friendly, musical exchange with students from Nankai University in Tianjin, China, the evening of May 23, and its final exchange with other students from Civil Aviation University of China (CAUC) in the same city before departing today for the capital of Mongolia.

PLC Members Join BYUH Choir Tour in China

TIANJIN, China — Several members of the BYU-Hawaii/Polynesian Cultural Center Presidents' Leadership Council (PLC) have been participating in the university's Concert Choir tour, which so far has included performances in Urumqi, Xi'an and Beijing. The choir is currently appearing in this city about three hour's drive from Beijing on its last stop in China before moving on to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

BYUH Choir Group Visits Rural China School, Factory

XIANGHE, China — The BYU-Hawaii Concert Choir group that is touring China and Mongolia from May 7-29 included a performance at a small elementary school in this agricultural community of about 1,200 people approximately 50 miles outside of Beijing. They also toured a nearby apparel factory owned by an unusually generous man, which gave them insights into the rural villages that make up an estimated 85% of China's population.
