President Wheelwright Receives Visit From Guangdong University of Finance

BYU–Hawaii President Steven C. Wheelwright received a visit from several members of the administration of the Guangdong University of Finance (GUF) in Guangzhou, China, on Saturday, September 12. The visitors included Vice President Ma Longhai, Professor Xiao Guanghong, Associate Director of Teaching Affairs Office, and Mr. Liu Hong from the Office of International Exchanges and Cooperation.

Vice President Ma and his colleagues made BYU–Hawaii their first stop on the way to visiting several other universities in the United States and Canada. They were impressed with President Wheelwright's previous experience in China and were eager to establish a relationship with our campus.

Vice President Ma first became aware of BYU–Hawaii a little over a year ago through a visit by Professor Mark James, Chair of the English Language Teaching and Learning Department. James gave a lecture at GUF upon the invitation of a colleague in the Department of Foreign Languages, Professor Wang Junsheng, who had spent a year on our campus about 10 years ago.

After visiting with President Wheelwright, the delegation went to the PCC for some picture taking opportunities before heading back to Honolulu.
