Title IX Updated

BYU–Hawaii learned on Tuesday, February 21, that the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is adding the university to its list of more than 227 postsecondary institutions under investigation. These investigations relate to the federal government’s requirements for responding to reports of sexual harassment.

A February 8, 2017 report from the Department of Education listed 309 open investigations involving 227 institutions, including one other Hawaii university.

BYU–Hawaii cannot comment on the specific details of this complaint due to federal privacy restrictions.

BYU–Hawaii Title IX Coordinator Debbie Hippolite Wright said "We strive to maintain a campus environment that is safe and respectful and take each report of sexual harassment extremely seriously. We are committed to protecting students, faculty, staff, and visitors from harassment and other behaviors covered under the Title IX.”
