The BYU-Hawaii Student Association and the Student Alumni Association hold the fall 2004 Voyage of Faith scholarship drive, beginning Thursday, November 18.
Funds will go toward the David O. McKay Legacy Endowment Fund, a fund that recognizes the university's founder, President David O. McKay, and will assist deserving students to come to BYU-Hawaii for generations to come.
As in the past, student donations are matched 6:1. That is, every dollar a student donates (up to $25) will be matched with a gift of $6 more from generous friends of the university. For example, if a student donates $25 to the fund, an additional $150 will be donated to the fund.
Faculty, staff and alumni donations are matched 4:1. In other words, every dollar they give (up to $500) will be matched with a gift of $4 more from generous friends of the university. A $25 donation will be matched with an additional contribution of $100.
Furthermore, 65 percent student participation will yield and an additional $12,500 from generous friends of the university; 80 percent participation yields an additional $15,000; and 90 percent yields an additional $25,000.

The closest any scholarship drive has come to these goals was a 54 percent student participation rate, accomplished this past summer term.
"We hope to build on this even more this fall," said Spencer Whitlock, BYUHSA executive assistant and vice president of SAS. "This will be the most successful drive to date."
The drive consists of a week of activities for those who donate. Each student who donates at least $1 will receive a bright yellow wristband, granting them free admission to all the events, as well as opportunities for other prize giveaways at the events.
