BYU-Hawaii Concert Choir to Perform at Carnegie Hall

Wednesday evening, BYU-Hawaii's Concert Choir departed for New York City on a one-week tour culminating in a performance at the world-famous Carnegie Hall. After weeks of daily rehearsal, the choir is ready and excited to see the "BigApple" and to perform Mozart's Requiem at the premiere hall.

BYU-Hawaii Student Honored at International Art Competition

Brigham Young University Hawaii art student Kisslan Chan was one of only 15 people to receive the Purchase Award, the top prize given at the Seventh InternationalArt Competition held in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 24th, 2006. More than 900submissions were entered into the competition, an event sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held at the Museum of Church History and Art.

BYU-Hawaii Brass Band and Jazz Ensemble Embark on Maui Tour

Thursday morning BYU-Hawaii's Brass Band and Jazz Ensemble departed for neighboring
Maui for a weekend tour of the island. The two groups, directed by David Kammerer
and Darren Duerden respectively, will tour Kahului, Hana, and Lahaina performing
at churches, community centers and open air venues. While in Maui, the group
of 34 will be hosted by church members and university ohana as they share their
many talents through concerts and firesides.

Egyptology Conference Brings in Experts From Around the World

The conference, entitled Evolving Egypt: Innovation, Appropriation, and Reinterpretation in Ancient Egypt, brings scholars and students of Egyptology from all around the world together to discuss issues of ancient Egypt.

BYU-Hawaii Korean Student Drummers Perform at Waikiki Shell

A group of sixteen BYU-Hawaii students were invited to perform Samul Nori, the
Korean percussion song and dance, at the Waikiki Shell on Friday July 1st, for
the Honolulu Centennial Celebration.
The BYU-Hawaii group, called Bu Seum Sae, played alongside Na Palapalai, The Makaha Sons, Aunty Genoa Keawe, and other local artists and cultural groups. Samul Nori is a traditional Korean percussion and dance originally performed at harvest time. Bu Seum Sae, has been recognized for their exciting mixture of traditional Korean beats with a young, contemporary style.

Concert Choir Shines in New York City

For the first time in school history, the Brigham Young University Hawaii Concert Choir took the stage at one of the world's most important and prestigious venues – Carnegie Hall. Long considered a place for the musically elite, Carnegie played host to BYU-Hawaii's premier SATB ensemble as the choir brought a packed New York audience to its feet at the conclusion of their performance of Mozart's Requiem.
