BYU-Hawaii Hosts Dance Crew

The Hypersquad Dance Company will be showcasing and performing various energetic hip hop routines on Wednesday, November 21, at 8 PM in the Cannon Activities Center. Based in Waipahu, the Hypersquad Dance Company was started in 1996.

Since its inception, Hypersquad has set the pace in the hip hop industry in Hawaii winning many first place awards at dance conventions and competitions both in the islands and on the mainland. Several years ago the owner, Jason Ulep, turned the company over to Joshua Ulep and Casey Kalahiki. Under this new ownership and a new name, Hypersquad for Life (HS4L), has continued to gain recognition nationally and internationally.

Ticket Prices for Evening Performance:
BYU–Hawaii Student: $5
BYU–Hawaii Staff/Faculty/Military: $5

The Hypersquad Hip Hop event on Wednesday is expected to be a prominent performance for BYU–Hawaii students since campus-held dances are packed with students having a good time. In addition to their evening performance, Hypersquad members are hosting dance workshops for interested students. By purchasing a $5 student ticket for the event that night, students can sign up at the Aloha Center Front Desk for the workshops. These dance workshops include classes that showcase the styles of Hip Hop, R&B, and Poppin’.

Dance workshops offered to BYU–Hawaii students:
4 to 5 PM - R&B Hiphop/Poppin’ (2 Classes)
5 to 6 PM - Street Hip Hop

Hypersquad’s philosophy is to take kids off the street and introduce them to street dancing. The age of dancers found in Hypersquad range from 3 years old to adults in their thirties. The studio is open Monday through Friday from 3:00-8:30 PM, and Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM. Street hip hop, krumping, whacking and vogueing, jazz ballet, and B-Boy and B-Girl classes are offered.
