New Zealand Phenom JGeeks bring Show to Campus

JGeeks will perform their first show in America at BYU–Hawaii on Friday, May 17, in the Cannon Activities Center.

BYU–Hawaii Performance Series looks for wholesome entertainment that appeals to the student population. JGeeks, made up of three main members Jermaine, Eru, and Marino, incorporate modern twists on cultural Maori elements. They took second place on New Zealand’s Got Talent, increasing their popularity.

“A student approached Performance Series asking about having JGeeks perform here. We looked into it and contacted them,” said Briana Petersen, a Performance Series student worker and senior studying TESOL, from Japan. “They have been extremely helpful and are aware of the audience.”

This will be one of the largest Performance Series events ever held. As of May 15, over 1500 tickets had been sold. “We had over 600 orders online, but had to close it due to the demand. The 70 VIP tickets sold out in a day,” said Petersen. “Some are coming from other Hawaiian islands to see the performance, as well as from the mainland. There are even some coming from as far away as New York.”
