Devotional Speaker Preview: Elder David S. Baxter

The upcoming devotional speaker on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, will be Elder David S. Baxter of the First Quorum of the Seventy. Elder Baxter, of Stirling, Scotland, served as an Area Seventy from 2002 to 2006 before his call to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 2006.

Baxter graduated from the University of Wales with a bachelor's of science degree in business and economics. He established himself as a leader in business, evident in his position at British Telecom as senior director and, in British government, membership in the board of the Home Office Agency. He has held communications and marketing positions with several international companies and is currently employed in international trade development for the government of the United Kingdom.

As a young man, he served a full-time mission in Edinburgh, Scotland. On his mission, he served 10 months as President of the Lerwick Branch on the Shetland Islands, about 200 miles off the coast of Scotland. Elder Baxter said he was stretched by opportunities to teach and serve in ways that brought depth and breadth of gospel understanding and prepared him for his future.

Baxter married his wife, Dianne Lewars, in 1979. He first served as a Bishop at age 25. Baxter has served in many callings, as teacher improvement coordinator, ward Young Men adviser, Stake Institute Director, Stake Public Affairs Director, Stake President, Counselor to the England London Mission President, and Counselor to the Europe West Area President. Baxter and his wife are the parents of four children. (Source: http://www.gapages.com/baxteds1.htm)
