Celebrating a Coach and a Legend

Norman Kaluhiokalani, commonly known as Coach K. all across the campus of Brigham Young University–Hawaii, is retiring after 40 years of working and coaching at BYU–Hawaii, leaving a legacy of coaching for the cross-country, soccer, and rugby teams that have played at the university. His last name, Kaluhiokalani, means in Hawaiian, “One who helps much for many without asking for any admiration.”

The Hula Preservation Society (HPS), the BYU-Hawaii Joseph F. Smith Library, and the University Archives, honored great hula masters with a hula performance and digital footage of five award ceremonies from the1980’s of “Na Makua Mahaloia: Cultural Greats of the 20th Century”, for students and the community on Tuesday, May 5.

10th Annual Research Conference Highlights Range of Student Presentations

On Thursday, March 18, regular classes were not held as BYU–Hawaii had its tenth annual Undergraduate Research Conference, sponsored by the College of Math and Sciences and the College of Language, Culture, and Arts. This conference gives students the opportunity to research and report on topics they find interesting in their fields and significant enough for further study and understanding. This conference, along with the Empower Your Dreams competition, involved hundreds of students across all areas of campus.
