BYU–Hawaii Wins the Enactus U.S. National Championship for the Third Straight Year
Brigham Young University–Hawaii’s Enactus team was crowned the 2020 Enactus U.S. National Champion Thursday, May 14. Defeating more than 40 universities and colleges from around the nation, the team of college students from BYU–Hawaii on the North Shore of Oahu will represent the United States at the Enactus World Cup in Utrecht, Netherlands this September.

New president named for Brigham Young University–Hawaii
The Board of Trustees of Brigham Young University–Hawaii has appointed John “Keoni” Kauwe to become the university’s eleventh president. President Kauwe will succeed John S. Tanner, who has served as president of the campus since 2015.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, made the announcement during the weekly BYU–Hawaii devotional, in a broadcast originating from Salt Lake City.
Dr. Kauwe is the dean of Graduate Studies at Brigham Young University in Provo. He is also an internationally recognized researcher specializing in Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Kauwe has deep roots in Hawaii and spent several years of his childhood on the islands of Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai, and is a graduate of Molokai High School. Read Full Story

Devotional Speakers for Spring 2020 Semester
BYU–Hawaii announced Tuesday its Spring 2020 devotional schedule. President John S. Tanner and his wife Sister Susan Tanner kick off the semester and are followed by members of the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU–Hawaii employees, and other invited guests. Weekly campus devotionals focus on spiritual learning by fostering greater faith and discipleship in Jesus Christ.

CES Guidelines Related to COVID-19
The Church Educational System (CES) has students around the world and higher education campuses in three states. CES is deeply interested in the health, education and spiritual growth of each of these students and those who serve them. Concerns related to COVID-19 have impacted every part of society, including education. After careful consideration of the present circumstances, the leadership of CES has adopted temporary guidelines which will be effective March 16, 2020.

Salsa Orchestra and Street Band to Tour Maui
The Brigham Young University–Hawaii Salsa Orchestra and Street Band will be traveling to the island of Maui for a four-day tour with performances in Pukalani, Kahului, and Lahaina. Featuring Latin and Jazz music, performances include lively and entraining concerts for the public as well as educational workshops for young music students.

Anthony Pickard Named Director of Campus Safety & Security
Anthony Pickard has been named the new Director of Campus Safety & Security for BYU–Hawaii and the Polynesian Cultural Center. Pickard is an alumnus of BYUH, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He came to BYUH as a basketball recruit and played on the inaugural basketball team for the school. After graduating, Pickard enlisted and advanced in the ranks from a private to an officer in the U.S. Army and the Hawaii Army National Guard.
