Ford Seeks Understanding of Peace Process

As a student at BYU-Hawaii, Chad Ford first heard President McKay’s prophecy when President Shumway was inaugurated. “I remember sitting in that audience,” he said, “and really feeling the Spirit and being overpowered by all of this—the first time I’d heard it forcefully talked about that way. My first reaction was to look around the auditorium. I knew a lot of cool students from a lot of cool places—people I thought were going to go back and be prime ministers and CEOs. BYU-Hawaii Concert Choir Tours Mongolia

The 64-voice Brigham Young University Hawaii Concert Choir will perform in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Friday, 25 May in a joint concert with the Mongolian College of Music & Dance in the Opera Theatre at Sukhbaatar Square and Saturday, 26 May, in the Cultural Palace, following a three-week tour in China. The BYU-Hawaii Concert Choir has previously performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Metropolitan Opera City Concert Hall in Tokyo, and the Seoul Arts Center in South Korea.

       来自蒙大拿州维丽镇(Valier)的迈克尔·基思·贝尔纳普(Michael Keith Belnap),现为杨百翰大学夏威夷分校声乐教授、音乐会合唱团指挥. 早先在杨百翰大学本部(位于犹他州普柔佛)获得音乐学学士、硕士学位,后在印第安纳大学和比利时欧洲戏剧中心攻读博士学位,其间随瓦洛尼皇家剧团访问德国、比利时、荷兰和法国等国家.

       贝尔纳普曾被里克斯大学(现为杨百翰大学爱达荷分校)授予埃利萨·R·斯诺表演艺术奖. 1999年,在耶稣基督后期圣徒教会的百人音乐榜中,他名列歌手类前五名.

•    The 64 student members of the Concert Choir come from 13 different countries, including: USA, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Mongolia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand

•    Two of the choir members come from China: Ning Sun (Frank), Shanghai; and Lau Kit Ming (Hong Kong)

•    Four of the choir members come Mongolia: Dashdavaa Bayarma, Enkhbaatar Narangarvuu, Purevsuren Enkhtugs and Purevsuren Erdenebileg.

•    16 or about one-fourth of the choir members speak English as a foreign language

       其中两名来自中国的成员分别是:孙宁(Frank)来自上海,刘洁明来自香港.

Brass and Salsa Ensembles Delight Audience

Sounds of brass and salsa music filled the McKay Auditorium, Friday evening, 30 March 2007, as the University Brass Quintet and the BYU-Hawaii Salsa Orchestra gave stellar performances to an appreciative audience.

The University Brass Quintet, directed by David Kammerer, began the evening with “Fanfare of Jubilation,” an original composition by BYU-Hawaii music student Timothy Johnson.  The rest of the program featured, some folktunes, works of Handel and Gabrieli, as well as an arrangement of the hymn tune “God of Our Fathers,” written by Kammerer.

Honors students look at countering terrorism
