The Overnight Camp featuring Stephen Curry for the Warriors Basketball Camp was held at BYU-Hawaii this past week July 2-5, 2016. The four-day/three-night camp took place on the campus for the first time ever. Camp was directed by Warriors Youth Basketball Staff, consisting of collegiate players as well as high school and college coaches. Registration for the camp took place back in February this year.

The Department of Education at Brigham Young University–Hawaii has been recognized in ToBecomeATeacher.org’s National Rankings for the best education programs in the United States. With an overall score of 9.91, Brigham Young University Hawaii came in fourth place, tying evenly with BYU in Provo. The Education Department ranked number one in the State of Hawaii.

His Majesty King Tupou VI and Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u of Tonga were joined by dignitaries and guests, as well as hundreds of Brigham Young University–Hawaii students and community members, for the “grand reopening” of the Polynesian Cultural Center’s recently renovated Tongan Village.

From June 14 to June 30, the BYU–Hawaii Concert Choir will literally traverse the whole of Japan by train, plane, and bus, from the distant southern island of Okinawa to the northern island of Hokkaido. The choir will perform at concert halls in Naha (6/17), Hiroshima (6/18), Osaka (6/21), Sapporo (6/23), and Tokyo (6/27), with an additional fireside in Sendai (6/25). With concert tickets already nearly sold out, the choir expects to perform for audiences totaling more than 5,000 people across the country.

Elder Gerrit W. Gong, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will address Brigham Young University–Hawaii’s 250 graduates and their families at this Spring’s commencement ceremony held on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 9:30 AM in the Cannon Activities Center in Laie, Hawaii.

Esther Candari, a student from Kaneohe, Hawaii, majoring in Visual Arts, completed a sculpture of the apostle Peter and presented it as a gift to President John Tanner and the University as a “small token of gratitude for all he does to help achieve the mission and vision of this special place.”

The top-ranked BYU–Hawaii women's tennis team played a closely contested 5-3 match to defending champions No. 3 Armstrong State in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Regency Athletic Complex in Denver, Colorado.

The University of Utah Chamber Choir will be coming to BYU–Hawaii on Saturday, May 14, at 7:30 PM. This renowned ensemble will present "Dichotomy," a concert program centered on poignant contrasts of style, meaning, and emotion.

Two major university events, the Undergraduate Research Conference and the Empower Your Dreams Competition, will take place this week – and all are invited to get involved in both, to learn and to support fellow students.

Assistant athletic director Brad Jones was announced as BYU–Hawaii’s new athletic director and longtime assistant coach Gabriel Roberts was named as BYU–Hawaii’s men’s basketball head coach on Tuesday, May 3.

The Polynesian Cultural Center is launching Oahu’s newest exhibit featuring Hawaii’s official state instrument, the ukulele. A grand opening of the new exhibit, Ukulele Experience, will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, from 5:00-8:30 PM at the Hukilau Marketplace in Laie, Hawaii.

To conclude his time here at BYU–Hawaii, theater and speech professor Craig Ferre will be directing the same play with which he began his BYU–Hawaii career 35 years ago. The cast, a collection of students and original cast members, will put on a final production of “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

The top-ranked BYU–Hawaii women's tennis team recorded their 10th PacWest Championship in as many years with a 5-1 defeat of No. 9 Hawaii Pacific on Saturday, April 16, at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Center in Surprise, Arizona. This was the ninth time the Seasiders (22-0) and Sharks (15-5) met in the finals of the conference championship.

This week, students are seeing a fleet of green bikes around campus. The bikes are part of a new idea for a transportation program being tested called “Free Rides.” Fifty-two bikes, identified by their bright green frames and red ID plates, are spread out across campus that students can use ideally for getting from class to class. The rules are simple: ride at your own risk, do not lock up the bikes, and keep them within the community.

The International Institute of Professional Protocol (IIPP) is coming to Brigham Young University–Hawaii on April 28-30, 2016. Presenters and trainers include CEOs and other prominent leaders who will provide students with world-class professional development and training. Barbara Barrington Jones, business woman, professional speaker and image consultant – whose foundation sponsors the conference – encourages students from all disciplines to prepare for professional situations in advance, and this unique conference does just that.

The Department of Visual Arts opens its annual Faculty Art Exhibit this Friday, April 8, from 7 – 8:30 PM in the McKay Auditorium Lobby. The exhibit, open and free to the public, will be on display until Monday, April 25, 2016.

Utah Valley University president Matthew Holland and his wife Paige Holland will be Devotional speakers on Tuesday, April 5, 2015. The campus and community are invited to attend at 11 AM in the Cannon Activities Center. The Devotional broadcast will also be streamed live at http://flash.byuh.edu/live.html.
