Chicago, IL April 28, 2014: A team of two business students from BYU–Hawaii outperformed 1760 other students from around the world to reach the finals of the Capsim Business Simulation Global Challenge. The team was one of the 12 teams to qualify for the 48-hour, high pressure business simulation play-offs last weekend.

Russell Ballard the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will speak at a CES Devotional for young adults—single and married, ages 18-30. Anciently, Mongolia began as an agriculture-based economy struggling to survive. Today, the country has one of the fastest developing economies in the world, the main industry being mining. The economy in Mongolia isn’t the only thing that is growing. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been spreading in Mongolia since LDS humanitarian missionaries conducted the country’s first sacrament meeting in 1993. In 2009, the first Mongolian stake was organized. Today, LDS membership exceeds 10,500, with one full-time mission area and 23 congregations.
Elder Craig C. Christensen of the Presidency of the Seventy was the guest speaker at the April 12 commencement exercises at BYU–Hawaii’s Cannon Activities Center. He encouraged the 460 graduates to see a broader vision of their lives and to never limit their own potential.
Approximately 460 students representing 39 countries will participate in the upcoming BYU–Hawaii Commencement exercises on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Elder Craig C. Christensen of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will address the graduates. Elder Christensen, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He also holds a master's degree in business administration degree from the University of Washington. Over the years, he has been a visiting instructor of business and religion courses at several universities, including Brigham Young University.
Taking their show on the road, BYU–Hawaii’s Salsa Orchestra and Brass Ensemble brought toe-tapping, hand-clapping, and head-bobbing performances to hundreds on the Hawaiian islands of Lanai, Maui and Molokai. The island tour, from March 12-16, 2014, included five major performances, workshops, gatherings with alumni and friends, a service project and fireside. The Salsa Orchestra and the Brass Ensemble are directed by Dr. Darren Duerden and Dr. David Kammerer, respectively.
On March 28, 2014, the university announced that it will transition out of intercollegiate athletics after the 2016-2017 seasons. Meetings were held with coaches, athletics department staff, and student athletes, followed by a general public announcement. The official announcement is below.
It may have been a day off from classes, but Thursday, March 20, 2014, certainly was not a holiday for the hundreds of BYU–Hawaii students who participated in both the Undergraduate Research Conference and the Empower Your Dreams competition.
March 24-30, 2014, is Choose 2 Give Week at BYU–Hawaii. The week will feature a series of events and activities that teach the concept and principles of giving – regardless of the amount – to support fellow students at BYU–Hawaii.
The BYU–Hawaii chapter of BYU Management Society awarded their fourth Global Leadership Award to Sheri L. Dew. Sister Dew served as a counselor in the Relief Society general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1997-2002, and since March 2002, she has served as the chief executive officer of Deseret Book Company.
